"Technology firms beef up spending to lobby D.C."

"Google, Facebook and other tech companies are spending growing amounts of money to make sure their names — and business interests — stay prominent in the minds of lawmakers and officials.
Google in 2010 spent $5.2 million on lobbying in Washington, D.C., a 28 percent increase over 2009 and nearly 2 ½ times what the Mountain View, Calif., company spent four years ago, according to lobbying reports recently filed with the U.S. Senate"
